Michael Elliot Kwabena Okyere Darko, popularly known as Obrafuor, has shared his experience and circumstances that has made him who he is today.

Accoridnf to the legendary rapper, it was not all rosy from the start since he did not come from a wealthy family.

He noted on Citi TV’s Hall of Fame that he was forced into the music scene as means of keeping body and soul together. This he said was because he had no one to turn to after her mother passed out and had to create a career for himself so he can survive.

Rapping became a means of survival for me – Obrafuor tells his experience
“I’m an Adventist but after my mother passed on, I had to depend on my talent to be able to survive.”

Music he said was not his thing from the onset and the lifestyle he portrayed in his childhood days was of high moral standards depicting a Christ like person.

According to him, during his SHS school days, he was a preacher of the gospel and had the desire of becoming a man of God but he has to make a U-turn into music.

Explaining further, he said he had no idea of his new adventure and so had to fall on a friend to teach him how to go about rapping. But his friend charged him 2,500 cedis old currency which is today 25 pesewas which he could not afford because at that time his monthly income was 1,500 cedis old currency which is today 15 pesewas.

“My friend told me he well charge me before he teach me how to rap but I couldn’t afford the cost.”

Fortunately for him, he chanced upon his friends (Quincy) notebook containing all his rapping styles and was privileged to have a fair knowledge of how to go about rapping and that was his breakthrough.

“So one day my friend left his notebook where we use to play which I had the opportunity I go through and learn his style of rap.”
