Award winning American songstress, Keri Hilson has finally revealed why fans have not heard any song from her for close to 10 years.
Keri Hilson mentioned that she has been off the music scene for a long while due to some dark moments she went through some years back. She made the revelation on Sunday during an Instagram live interaction with Stonebwoy as they discussed their collaboration, ‘Nominate’ which was one of the highly anticipated singles of the Anloga Junction album released by Stonebwoy last Thursday.
The BHIM President sought to find out from the singer why she had been off the scene for a long while and in answering the question, she revealed she went through a dark phase in her life trying to rediscover herself. “This was coupled with a number of changes in management and renegotiation of some deals which took a toll on me setting me into a state of depression”, she said.
The ‘Knock You Down’ hit maker added she has not released any song since 2011 after she dropped ‘Pretty Girls Rock’ of her second studio album, ‘No Boys Allowed’. She however said that despite not releasing songs for almost 10 years, she has been performing at events especially international ones which include trips to Japan and China.
Reacting to a question from a fan during the interaction as to whether she loved Afrobeat and if she enjoyed working with Stonebwoy, ‘Miss Keri’ as she is affectionately known mentioned that over the years she has come to love the Afrobeat sound even though she does not understand the languages used in the songs. She also disclosed why she decided to work with Stonebwoy saying, “Having had a great chat with the ‘Tuff Seed’ crooner, i felt a kind of connection between us and that pushed me to work for the first time with an African artiste.”
The visibly enthused Ghanaian artiste was also full of praise for the American singer and recounted the great times they had working on the song in the studio and shooting the visuals which has about 316,000 views and trending number 1 on Youtube two days after its release. Keri Hilson was featured on a song titled ‘Nominate’ on the album which was produced by Grammy award winning producer, Andre ‘Dre’ Harris.
The Anloga Junction album by Stonebwoy before its release on Thursday April 24,2020 was the first time an album from a Ghanaian artiste had made it into the pre-ordered category of Apple Music, joining Alicia Keys’ ‘Alicia’ album as one of the most pre-ordered albums on the music streaming service. Stonebwoy has since the release received lots of praises from colleague artistes and industry players across the globe for putting together a great album and has been tipped to win lots of awards locally and internationally. The album features Ghanaian great Kojo Antwi and international acts like Keri Hilson, Zlatan, Jahmiel, Nasty C and Diamond Platnumz.
